The Lab- Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I KNOW THE LAB IS RIGHT FOR ME?

This is a space designed to support introspective work and experiential learning for actors and creators of historically marginalized genders*. This space is right for you if you want to focus on creating a consistent practice, build your practical skills and connect with a community of artists. Our work draws on an array of cognitive, emotional and somatic tools and embodied practices that can support lasting personal change. Emerging actors, artists and creators are welcome, as well as those with established careers who are looking to find new ways of tapping into their practice.  You can read more about Vivien's approach to coaching and facilitation here.

*Our definition of historically marginalized genders includes transgender women, cisgender women, transgender men, non- binary individuals and all gender identities which have been systematically oppressed by those in power throughout history- especially as pertains to discrimination and exclusion in the entertainment industry.

WHAT’S THE SCHEDULE?

Drop-in Practice is held most Sunday mornings from 11AM- 12PM EST for 1 hour.

 

Your monthly On Camera 1:1 Session can be scheduled through the online booking calendar. Availability is flexible although times vary and spots are first come first served.

Pop- up workshops and Q + A's will be scheduled well in advance of the event. Usually on Monday afternoons or evenings. 

​

All live sessions are held via Zoom. On rare occasions there may be cancelled or rescheduled sessions. Your membership includes access to recordings so you can stay connected to your practice outside of live sessions. 

Participants are always given advance notice of any changes to the schedule and a calendar is provided in the members portal so you can keep track of sessions, times, and topics. Recordings are emailed for members who aren’t able to attend live.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A PRACTICE OR SESSION GETS CANCELLED OR RESCHEDULED?

As a self employed facilitator, who is also a working actor, on occasion sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled due to time away for work, illness or rest. In these cases advance notice will be provided whenever possible. Planning for unforeseen cancellations or rescheduling is built into the cost of membership.

IS THIS AT ALL LIKE THERAPY?

This space is not a psychotherapy group and is not a substitute for individualized support from a therapist. The emphasis is on practice, education and self- introspection. Vivien is here in the capacity of facilitator and coach and participation in the group does not constitute a therapeutic relationship.

WHAT APPROACHES ARE USED IN PRIVATE SESSIONS AND GROUP WORKSHOPS?

You can read about Vivien's training and approach here. Guest educators and facilitators will offer an array of curriculum in which they have training and/ or substantial relevant experience.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE?

Not much! You will need some room for gentle movement and a computer, tablet, or phone with a camera. You will also need a journal and a pen to write with and a private space, free from as much distraction as possible. If you are taping during our 1:1 session make sure you have your phone and lights set up before we begin our call. Don't want to waste any time!

IS THIS A LONG TERM COMMITMENT?

The membership is designed to support you and your creative practice over time, you're welcome to stay for a long as you want to and can cancel whenever you choose.

ARE THERE PWYC SPOTS AVAILABLE?

Yes! There are a couple pwyc spots for community members who would not otherwise be able to access this space due to economic barriers. You can email us to receive an application and find out if a space is available here. There is often a waitlist. If spots are full you will be added to it and notified when a spot opens up

HOW DO I PAY AND ACCESS THE CALENDAR?

The Registration button on the Lab page will take you to a platform to sign up and create an account as well as enter your credit card information or pay through PayPal. When this is completed you’ll receive a confirmation email with details explaining how to access your member account where you can view the calendar, event notices and schedule monthly sessions. Membership works on a monthly recurring basis, you’ll have access for as long as you wish to stay and you can cancel anytime. You’ll be charged monthly from the date you initially register.

CAN I GET A REFUND?

Due to the digital nature of the content there are no refunds. You are welcome to cancel your membership at any time through the settings in your account. When you cancel you’ll have access to your membership content until the end of the billing cycle. You can easily cancel at any time by going into your account settings —> Billing in Wix, When you cancel you’ll have access for remainder of your billing cycle.
